A Tale of 2 Pitchers

I would never be more happy to be proven wrong - Dustin McGowan says he's going to be ready to compete for a spot in the rotation this spring training. He says he's 85% and ready to go. This is excellent news, as I have said several times, I never thought he would pitch again so first off I'm happy that he is as healthy as he is. The question now is can he get from 85% to mlb capable and stay there for an extended period. Make no mistake there is a long way to go between "Dustin McGowan thinks he's 85%" and back to as good as he was from the second 1/2 of 2007 to the first 1/2 of 2008. Maybe he never finds that form again, who knows? I'm just happy that it looks like he's going to have the chance.

In an update to the Aroldis Chapman saga (is saga the right word? seems like more of an inevitable slow conga to success for the guy. Shouldn't there be some kind of tension for him in the whole thing for it to be a saga? Hey Aroldis, how tough is it on you knowing that you might only earn $15 instead of $20m over the next 5 years in a career where you will probably earn over $100, does it get you down?  -I digress), also at djf, apparently the Jays and Angels are the final contenders for his services for around $21. I am not sure how I feel about it.

Clicking around on a recent sleepless night I found this at dugoutcentral.com, and while it all might be wrong, if any one of it is actually right is the guy worth that kind of investment? The most telling thing to me is the Cashman quote. If the Yankees think he's the real thing, why do they care how much he costs and how old he really is? Do they really feel that burnt by Igawa? Ultimately it's not my money, and if the Jays pay him that and he never gets out of the minors, as long as it doesn't impact what they do otherwise in building the team, who cares? If that's not how it's going to be, then I think they should stay away.
