I guess Beeston finally decided to take the money

I can't at all say I'm surprised by this, and like many things you can look at this optimistically or pessimistically.

The optimist would say:

This is great news, Beeston was able to convince Rogers to invest the required funds into the team to be a contender so he would want his name to be attached going forward and would feel good about being involved.

The pessimist would say:

Beeston finally got fed up with offering other people millions of dollars to run the team and being turned down and figured out that he was going to share the blame anyways so he might as well collect the dollars for himself. Maybe a miracle will occur and they'll actually do something and he'll be a hero. At worst he goes home at the end of it all and sits on an even bigger pile of money.

I guess the middle ground is he got pissed off at being turned down and just ended up saying "I'll show you all!" I guess this is better than pessimist, but not as good a optimist.

Either way, I'm not going to believe this is great news until I see the team start to spend some real money, because it's a lot easier to spend $15mil on Beeston over 3 years and acquire the patina of a contender than spend $400mil+ over 3 years and actually be a contender.

When do the winter meetings start?
