Listening to the game last night on the Radio, I heard some stuff about Randy Ruiz that made me wince. They just could not help but talk about him in glowing terms. What a great story! What a great guy! Is he ever "Intriguing"! (I don't know if they said that exactly, but it's the kind of thing that gets said).
For me Ruiz is the canary in the coal mine. If the team starts sending out signals that they are just fine with trying him out as the DH next season, and we get this nice shiny distraction stuff then my alarm bells are going to be going off and we'll know that it's cross your fingers time for next season. What's that, how do we plan on filling in the rotation after Halladay? Look over here at this big 31 year old underdog guy, why not just look at him and feel good. Bask in his feelgoodiness, who needs those questions.
DH is just about the easiest position to fill for an AL team. If you are serious about building a contender then you get a serious DH.
I can't wait for the Cecil Fielder references to start.
